The executive manager of the green fund for the climate has confirmed Sunday, his support to the great green wall program. He expressed during the session dedicated to mobilize funds for nature and climate, on the side of the nature world conservation congress (UICN 2021) which is held actually in Marseille.
The minister of environment and sustainable development, Mrs . Marieme Bekaye has participated in the works of this high level session, in the presence of President of the Global Environment Fund, Mr. Carlos Manuel Rodriguez, the Executive Director of the Green Climate Fund, Mr. Yannick Glemarec, the Minister of Environment and Energy of Costa Rica, Ms. Andrea Meza Murillo and the Director of the Campaign for Nature, Mr. Brian O’Donnell.
The goal of this meeting is to promote a new long term vision of complementarity, consistency and collaboration between the two Funds, which has joint missions, and may be mutually strengthening.
All along her intervention the minister of environment and sustainable development pointed out that this session in due to face many challenges, specially climate change, demolition of biodiversity, deforestation or forests lagging.
The great green wall initiative, comparing to these challenges constitutes an ideal frame of integration and financing release up to the stakes.
In addition, the minister suggested the decrease of deadlines of preparations and approvals of programs and projects as well as synchronization of procedures to improve the effectiveness of the two funds mentioned above.
The minister pleaded to get out of the logic of projects that have impacts limited regarding the stakes. In place she recommends putting in action integrated programs, mobilization of national and international know-how to support the dynamic.
The minister sees that it necessary to boost projects evaluation in order to take out the best experiences, develop relevant indicators, and collect information to obtain good results.
Finally, the environment minister has expressed the wish for a strong scientific research to establish a real policy for the transfer of technologies.
