About The Mauritanian News Agency

The Mauritanian News Agency occupies a prominent position in the national media landscape and serves as the primary source of official news and coverage of government activities. It is the only national media organization broadcasting in Arabic, French, and English. It publishes the country’s two oldest and most important daily newspapers and operates the oldest and most extensive network of domestic correspondents. Thanks to its wealth of experience, it serves as the driving force behind the development of the Mauritanian media and is the primary reference for scholars studying the history of journalism in the country.
Over the course of its nearly five-decade history, the agency has gone through several phases and milestones. In the last three years, it has undergone a qualitative leap encompassing various structural, technical, and editorial aspects, which enabled significant improvements to both the work environment and staff conditions.
In terms of structure, the agency finalized a comprehensive strategy that keeps pace with rapid developments in modern systems and technologies, while accommodating the various aspects and evolving demands of media work.
In the area of news services, the agency adopted the latest editing and publishing systems and introduced new services—such as live streaming, news dissemination, and photo reports via audiovisual media and social media platforms—in addition to its established services via SMS and its website, ami.mr.
The agency has also launched a specialized monthly publication titled Al-Shaab Magazine (and Horizons in French), which monitors and tracks development issues and highlights ongoing projects through coverage utilizing various journalistic formats.
In the technical sphere, the agency has sought to acquire and upgrade production tools, broadcasting equipment, and logistical support systems. It has also begun digitizing its vast archive, restoring its historic building, renovating its regional offices, and modernizing its equipment and facilities.
