Our Country Participates in the Work of the International Labor Conference

Our country participated, through visual communication, in the 109th session of the International Labor Conference, which started today, Tuesday, in Geneva.
The work of the session devoted to discussing the report of the Director-General of the International Labor Office focused on the topic “Work in the time of COVID-19”.
The discussion was an occasion in which the Minister of Public Service, Labor and Employment, Mr. Camara Saloum Mohamed, delivered a speech that began with congratulating the President of the Conference, on behalf of the Government, on his election to run the 109th session.
He affirmed Mauritania’s strong commitment to reforms aimed at ensuring equity and social justice in access to decent work.
He also noted that, despite the special international situation due to the COVID-19 pandemic, our country was able to implement important measures by prioritizing the guarantee of basic rights at work and specifically for the benefit of workers at risk of instability, among which is the implementation of a project to combat forced labor from During key awareness-raising, training and capacity-building activities for the benefit of the population, work to evaluate the PANET RIM to identify new directions for it; And redouble the state’s special interest in building the capacities of labor inspectors and supervisors in order to ensure the strict application of labor legislation.
The Minister added that the National Council for Social Dialogue has been established, which will start its work in the coming months; working to define union representation soon by organizing professional elections for which ILO assistance was requested to start; the continuous improvement of the services provided by the National Social Security Fund, which now covers the entire national territory; Improving the services of the National Office of Occupational Medicine and reorienting its tasks towards more prevention.
The Minister renewed his thanks to the International Labor Organization for the valuable and multifaceted assistance that it continues to provide to Mauritania, wishing all success for the work of the conference.
