President of Republic Receives HAPA’s 2025 Annual Report

His Excellency President Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani received the 2025 annual report of the Press and Broadcasting Higher Authority (HAPA) during a meeting on August 4 at the Presidential Palace in Nouakchott.

The report was presented by HAPA President Mohamed Abdallahi Lehbib, who briefed the President of the Republic on the authority’s activities over the past year.

Speaking after the meeting, Mr. Lehbib said the report provides a comprehensive overview of HAPA’s work during 2025, reflects the state of Mauritania’s media landscape, highlights the main issues that emerged during the year, and outlines recommendations for the period ahead.

He said President Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani instructed the authority to continue efforts to professionalize the media sector and strengthen mechanisms for its development and regulation. The President also called for expanding media databases, continuing the processing of applications for professional press cards, enhancing the regulation of digital media and social media platforms, and improving the criteria governing access to the Public Support Fund for the Private Press.

Mr. Lehbib affirmed that HAPA would continue implementing the legal framework governing the media and press sector with professionalism, flexibility, and firmness, in line with the President’s directives and with his continued support and patronage.
