Mauritania Officially Receives Accreditation (A) of Global Alliance of National Human Rights Institutions

On 16 March, Mauritania received officially the certificate of obtaining Accreditation (A) of the Global Alliance of National Human Rights Institutions with the United Nations Human Rights Council.

This status is the highest among the classifications granted by this alliance to national human rights commissions, as they are subject to a scale of three categories (A.B.C) according to the independence, credibility, and merit of each commission and its compatibility with the Paris Principles.

On behalf of Mauritania, the certificate of accreditation (A) was received by Mr. Ahmed Salem Ould Bouhoubeyni, the President of the National Human Rights Commission, at the head of a commission composed of members of the commission, including Feity Elalem and Moulay El Hacen Soueylim, during the General Assembly of the Global Alliance of Human Rights Institutions, currently held in Geneva.

This assembly brings together more than seven hundred participants, in addition to the partners of this alliance, the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights and the United Nations Development Program.

The National Human Rights Commission had obtained this accreditation at the end of 2020, but the conditions of the pandemic which suspended the convening ofthe General Assembly of this global alliance have delayed the official receipt by our country of this ranking.

It is noteorthy that Status (A) is a rare ranking in the sub-region.
