Minister of Fisheries Meets with OHCHR Representative

The Minister of Fisheries and Maritime Economy, Mr. Abdel Aziz Ould Dahi, met, Thursday in Nouakchott, with the representative of the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights in Mauritania, Mr. Laurent Meillan.

The talks focused on the cooperation relations between Mauritania and this UN institution, and ways and means to enhance them, particularly in the areas of fisheries and maritime economy.
They also discussed the OHCHR’s willingness to support the new strategy of the fisheries sector and the maritime economy, in view of its contribution to the fight against food insecurity.

The two parties also spoke of the OHCHR’s commitment to building the capacities of the Mauritanian coast guard in the fight against irregular migration and the rescue of capsized ships.

The UN official also briefed the minister on his institution’s history and the support it has always provided for security establishments.
