EU Special Representative in Sahel Praises Mauritania’s Counter-Terrorism Security Approach

The Eu’s Special Representative in the Sahel, Amanil del Rey, explained that Mauritania plays an important and pivotal role in the Sahel region.

Speaking at the launch of an international forum on development, governance and human rights in the Sahel on Monday in Nouakchott, she said Mauritania is the place to organize the meeting, with several factors making it the most suitable place.

She praised Mauritania’s security approach, which is an important security experience, noting the need to boost investments in water, electricity and infrastructure.

She said that this conference will work to develop strategies and obtain tangible results that will help to move from the security issue to development, which is a key factor in achieving security and stability.

She pointed out that the EU developed an integrated strategy for the coast last year, mainly focused on governance, which means working on the institutional framework, activating the results of the democratic series and moving rapidly towards security and development.
