Chairperson of the European Parliament’s Human Rights Committee: Sahel Situation Calls for Support for Effective Policies to Spread Peace

The President of the European Parliament’s Human Rights Subcommittee, Ms. Maria Arena, explained that the Sahel is an increasingly unstable region due to gangs and terrorism that kills thousands of women and men, forces them to flee their places of residence and deprives them of their basic rights.

She said, during Speaking at the launch of an international forum on development, governance and human rights in the Sahel on Monday in Nouakchott, that the situation attracts the attention of all civil society bodies to mobilize their efforts and move everything they have to help eradicate this phenomenon.

The European Parliament’s Human Rights Subcommittee aimed to understand and analyse the repercussions of the phenomenon of terrorism on the Sahel, contribute to a vision of dealing with the region’s problems and support effective policies for the spread of peace.
