On 18 June, Ms. A?ssata Daouda Diallo, Minister of Environment and Sustainable Development, returned to Nouakchott from Senegal, after participating in a meeting of ministers in charge of the environment on the management of coastal, marine, biodiversity and reserve areas in West Africa, which took place in Dakar on the 17th of this month.
The meeting resulted in the ratification of legislation on the development of technical, legal and institutional staff as a framework for harmonious and coordinated intervention for sustainable management of the West African region, as well as the outcome and recommendations of regional programmes on biodiversity and nature reserves.
The Dakar meeting was an opportunity for the ministers concerned to express their commitment to speed up national procedures for ratifying the Abidjan Agreement in order to expand the content of the programmes, strengthen areas of intervention and strengthen regional and international cooperation in the sustainable management of coastal areas in West Africa.
