Minister of Defense Receives UN Experts

On 30 May in Nouakchott, Mr. Hanana Ould Sidi, the Minister of National Defense, received the UN group responsible for monitoring the implementation of the provisions of UN Security Council Resolution No. 2374/2017 on the prohibition to travel and the freezing of the assets of persons and entities who threaten peace in Mali.

The meeting focused on security issues on the border with Mali, the situation of refugees, and the organized criminal networks’ activities.

The Minister assured the UN group of the commitment of the Mauritanian government and its constant concern to strictly apply the provisions of the Security Council resolution and its determination to work tirelessly to fight against the activity of organized criminal networks. He also stressed Mauritania’s firm will to strengthen the various aspects of bilateral and multilateral cooperation to this end.
