Minister of Foreign Affairs Meets With Heads of Diplomatic Missions Accredited to Mauritania

On 28 February, Mr. Ismail Ould Cheikh Ahmed, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Cooperation, and Mauritanians Abroad, received, in Nouakchott, HE. Jones Guilym, the Head of Delegation of the European Union to Mauritania with the Ambassadors of Germany, Spain, the United Kingdom, and Japan, as well as the heads of mission of the embassies of France and the United States of America to Mauritania.

The diplomats told the minister that they are leading a joint initiative aimed at clarifying the vision and position of their respective countries vis-à-vis the Ukrainian crisis.

In response, the Minister expressed Mauritania’s deep concern over this crisis, and his appeal to all parties to show wisdom and restraint, observe a cease-fire, and sit down at the negotiating table to reach a happy ending to the crisis.

Mr. Ould Cheikh Ahmed also insisted on the need to observe, as soon as possible, a humanitarian truce and to establish a safe passage for civilians and those stranded, including Mauritanians residing in Ukraine.
