Luxembourg’s Foreign Minister Praises Mauritania’s role in ensuring security and stability in G5 Sahel Region

On 18 January, the Minister of Foreign and European Affairs, Minister of Immigration and Asylum of Luxembourg, Mr. Jean ASSELBORN, praised the important role that Mauritania plays in the framework of the G5 in the Sahel, to ensure peace and stability in the region.

He added, after the meeting that the President of the Republic, His Excellency Mr. Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani, singled him out, today, at the presidential palace in Nouakchott, that this meeting discussed areas of cooperation between Mauritania and Luxembourg and ways to push this cooperation to broader areas.

He said that the conversation focused on ways to strengthen bilateral relations, in this context, he says, Luxembourg’s ambassador to Senegal will be accredited to Mauritania, as will an honorary consul in Luxembourg.

He also explained that his meeting with the President of the Republic provided an opportunity to discuss the development in Mauritania, the situation in Europe, and the geopolitical situation in the G5 Sahel region, particularly the situation in Mali.

We note that the minister had arrived in Nouakchott on Monday evening on a several-day visit to Mauritania, he was received at the airport by Mr. Ismail Ould Cheikh Ahmed, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Cooperation and Mauritanians Abroad.
