Inter-Ministerial Committee on COVID-19 Calls For Vigilance

On 5 January, Prime Minister Mohamed Ould Bilal Messoud chaired a meeting, via videoconference, of the inter-ministerial committee in charge of monitoring the spread of COVID-19, in implementation of the directives of His Excellency the President of the Republic, Mr. Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani. The aim is to deal with anything likely to affect the health and safety of citizens.

During this meeting, the committee reviewed the available indicators on the epidemiological situation in our country, which show that the infection curve of this virus is experiencing an unprecedented escalation these days and an infection rate faster than ever.
In this regard, the committee discussed the measures necessary to break this curve and ease the pressure on our health care system.

In this context, the committee recommended to:

– Ensure the strict application of prevention and precautionary measures in mosques, schools, markets, public transport, and various public spaces; and to provide the masks and means of sterilization necessary for this purpose;

– Urge citizens to flock to vaccination centers, which have been expanded to include children over 11, and pave the way for the third dose;

– Double the vaccination points and control their spread so that they are in places close and visible to all the citizens concerned;

– Intensify awareness-raising campaigns on the seriousness of this epidemic and the need for vaccination to avoid its serious complications;

– Reactivate awareness-raising committees at regional and moughataas level and surveillance committees which force citizens who go to the market to respect preventive measures.

Finally, His Excellency Mohamed Bilal Messoud stressed that the committee meeting remains open given the sensitivity of the current health situation and in anticipation of any emergency which could require taking more measures to contain this epidemic and break the curve of its spread. He called on everyone to be vigilant and to adhere to all the preventive measures decided by the competent authorities.
