Interior Ministry: No One Is Protected from the Arm of Law
The Ministry of Interior and Decentralization, affirmed in a statement received by the Mauritanian News Agency, that the rule of law and institutions requires everyone – institutions and individuals, without exception – to obey the provisions of the law, far from any arbitrariness or discrimination.
Below is the text of the statement:
“In last days, recordings and blogs have spread on social media, in which the language of hatred and expressions of incitement prevailed, which went beyond insults and obscenity against state symbols and undermining their honor to threatening with weapons to stir up strife and prejudice civil peace.
These conducts contradict the principles on which the Mauritanian state was founded, such as consolidating national unity and strengthening civil peace, calling for fraternity and tolerance, and rejecting abhorrent fanaticism and hateful regionalism.
The laws of state stipulate the prohibition of all tribal, racist, and inciting calls, and the violator takes full responsibility for his actions.
In this context, it should be mentioned that the rule of law and institutions obliges everyone – institutions and individuals without exception – to obey the provisions of the law, far from any arbitrariness or discrimination, only by this, the confidence of citizens in public policies can be achieved.
While the Ministry of Interior and Decentralization affirms its keenness and adherence to the important role of freedom of expression in developing and accelerating the pace of democracy and development, it stipulates the necessity of adherence to responsibility and adherence to the law.
From this fundamental, the Ministry of Interior and Decentralization calls for the necessity of adhering to the dictates of law and morals, stressing that the concerned authorities will initiate the application of the law and the law only, and will strictly and firmly punish all those who cross the red lines in their destructive calls.
