Foreign Minister: Mauritania Attaches great Attention to its Strategic Partnership with Turkey

The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Cooperation, and Mauritanians Abroad, Mr. Ismael Ould Cheikh Ahmed, stressed that the bilateral relations between Mauritania are based on cooperation in various strategic areas.

In his intervention on Thursday in the preparatory meeting for the Turkey-Africa Partnership Summit in Istanbul, the minister added that the partnership between the two countries has recently witnessed a significant progress in different areas; where the trade volume has tripled since 2019; the Turkish Airlines has established an air bridge between the two countries in trying times of the COVID-19 Pandemic.

The minister praised the positive role played by the Turkish human resources in Africa in general, and Mauritania in Particular, in fields such as: fishing and mining. He also hailed the role of the Maarif schools, which are a living example of Turkey’s contribution to the development of human resources in the African continent.

He pointed out that cooperation between Turkey and Africa in the field of agriculture is indispensable because food security constitutes today a real challenge due to the rocketing rise in food prices and transport.
