Signing of Agreements for Construction, Operation of Gas-Fired Power Plant

Today, Tuesday, in Nouakchott, a series of agreements were signed by the Minister of Economy and Finance, Mr. Abdellahy Ould Souleymane Ould Cheikh Sidiya; the Minister of Energy and Petroleum, Mr. Mohamed Ould Khaled; the Minister of Finance, Mr. Kodioro Moussa Nguénore; and the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Saudi company ACWA Power, Mr. Mohammad Abdullah Abunayyan. The agreements relate to the construction and operation of a power plant with a capacity of up to 230 megawatts in the N’Diago area of Trarza Wilaya, fueled by gas from the Greater Tortue Ahmeyim (GTA) gas project.

The power plant—the first of its kind in Mauritania to be developed under the Independent Power Producer (IPP) model—aims to strengthen the country’s energy security and ensure reliable, sustainable electricity generation to meet growing demand. The project will also optimize the use of the country’s natural gas resources and support economic and social development by enhancing the stability of the national electricity grid and increasing Mauritania’s attractiveness to investment.
