Mauritania expressed its strong condemnation of the Houthi militia’s attempt to target the Medina region with a ballistic missile.
In a statement issued this Friday evening by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation, and Mauritanians Abroad, the country affirmed its full solidarity with the sisterly Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and its support for all measures taken by the Kingdom to protect its security and preserve the integrity of its territory.
The text of the statement is as follows:
“The Islamic Republic of Mauritania expresses its strong condemnation of the Houthi militias’ attempt to target the Medina region with a ballistic missile, affirming its full solidarity with the sisterly Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and its support for all measures it takes to protect its security and the integrity of its territory.
It should be noted that targeting Medina—given its sanctity and exalted status in the hearts of Muslims, its hosting of the Mosque of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, and its welcoming of the guests of the Most Merciful and visitors to the Prophet’s Mosque—constitutes an unacceptable violation of the sanctity of Islamic holy sites and a threat to the security and peace of mind of Muslims.
Mauritania reaffirms its unwavering position calling for the preservation of holy sites, respect for the sovereignty of states, and the avoidance of anything that could undermine security and stability in the region.
Nouakchott, November 6, 2026.”
