Mr. Ely Ould El-Veirek, the Minister of Equipment and Transport, held a series of meetings during the second stage of his visit to the Canary Islands with economic stakeholders and institutions specializing in transport and infrastructure.
In this context, a memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed with the Spanish Metrotenerife to conduct technical and economic studies for establishing a tramway system in the city of Nouadhibou.
The signing took place on the sidelines of a business forum organized by the Chamber of Trade of the island of Tenerife, with the participation of several companies and economic institutions.
The minister also held a meeting with several leading Spanish companies on exploring investment and partnership opportunities in urban transport and infrastructure. Discussions also covered the mechanisms for implementing the studies related to the tramway project and the proposed timeline for its completion.
In this context, the minister reaffirmed the Mauritanian government’s commitment to promoting digital transformation, noting that all strategic projects have been published through the digital platform “Qantara.” He called on Spanish companies, particularly those in the Canary Islands, to consult the platform and submit their technical proposals.
This step is part of Mauritania’s efforts to develop its urban transport system and support urban expansion, particularly in Nouadhibou, which represents a key economic hub of the country.
