Health Minister Receives High-Level Italian Delegation

On 21 April in Nouakchott, Health Minister Mr. Tidjani Thiam met with an Italian delegation led by Health Minister Mr. Orazio Schillaci and Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Mr. Edmondo Cirielli.

The Italian delegation included the Ambassador of Italy to Mauritania, Mrs. Paola Russo, along with several officials from the Ministries of Health and Foreign Affairs, the Italian Cooperation Office in Nouakchott, and the Italian Institute for University Cooperation.

The meeting focused on prospects for strengthening cooperation between the two countries in the field of health, particularly in areas such as skills transfer and training, the development of specialized services, and the decentralization of healthcare delivery. These efforts aim to improve services for citizens and enhance their quality.

The discussion also provided an opportunity to review existing cooperation between the National Cardiology Center and San Camillo Hospital. This collaboration is part of Italy’s health cooperation program, which seeks to improve care for patients with heart diseases and to share Italian expertise—especially in training, technical exchange, and telemedicine.
