A delegation from our country, headed by the permanent representative to the Arab League, Mr. Hussein Sidi Abdullah Al-Daih, participated yesterday, Wednesday, in Beijing, China, in the first session of the mechanism for coordination and preparation for the second Arab-Chinese summit, scheduled to be held in mid-June.
In his speech on the occasion, the Permanent Representative highlighted the importance of this summit in advancing Arab-Chinese relations, noting that this meeting goes beyond a ceremonial nature to reflect the depth of the shared historical heritage between the two sides, recalling that the Silk Road formed a civilizational bridge that laid the foundation for a deep-rooted partnership.
He added that Mauritania values its solid friendship with China, which spans nearly six decades, and was especially strengthened following the visit of His Excellency the President of the Republic, Mr. Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani, to China in September 2024, and his meeting with His Excellency President Xi Jinping, confirming the alignment of views on major issues.
He renewed the affirmation of Mauritania’s steadfast support for the principle of ‘One China,’ and its endorsement of the global initiatives launched by the Chinese President in the fields of development, security, civilization, and governance, considering them as pillars for a more just and stable world.
On the economic front, the delegate highlighted Mauritania’s vision aimed at diversifying and deepening the Arab-Chinese partnership, particularly in the fields of energy transition and the blue economy, pointing out the country’s significant potential in renewable energy, which qualifies it to be a global hub in the production and export of green hydrogen, in addition to opportunities for cooperation in exploiting marine resources and supporting sustainable development.
Regarding the Palestinian issue, the permanent delegate condemned the crimes committed by Israel and its policies of starvation and displacement, appreciating China’s supportive role for the Palestinian cause and its full membership in the United Nations, affirming that achieving security and stability requires the complete cessation of aggression and the establishment of an independent Palestinian state on the borders of June 4, 1967, with Jerusalem as its capital.
In conclusion of his speech, he expressed his confidence that the meeting’s proceedings would be successful, leading to the development of an ambitious vision and work programs that lay the foundation for a successful Arab-Chinese summit.
