Minister of Agriculture Receives CILSS Executive Secretary

The Minister of Agriculture, Mr. Sidina Ould Sidi Mohamed Ould Ahmed Ely, received, on Monday in Nouakchott, Mr. Abdoulaye Mohamadou, Executive Secretary of the Permanent Interstate Committee for Drought Control in the Sahel (CILSS), currently visiting Mauritania.

During the meeting, they discussed cooperation relations between Mauritania and CILSS, particularly regarding the implementation of projects and the continuing training of Mauritanian technical managers in institutes affiliated to the organization.

The Executive Secretary of CILSS briefed the Minister on ongoing organizational reforms and progress made in implementing the recommendations of the Presidents’ Summit, held last year.

The two parties also discussed the issue of laws relating to the regulation of pesticides authorized by the organization, in view of the interest that Mauritania attaches to this issue, materialized by the establishment of a new department for the fight against agricultural pests.
