Human Rights Commissioner holds Working Meeting with the African Group of States in Geneva

The Commissioner for Human Rights, Humanitarian Action and Relations with Civil Society, Mr. Sid Ahmed Ould Bennan, held a working meeting on Thursday morning in Geneva, via video conference, with the group of African countries represented in Geneva, headed by the Permanent Representative of Sudan.

The meeting discussed the progress made in the promotion and protection of human rights in Mauritania, as well as our country’s candidacy for membership of the United Nations Committee against Torture (CAT).

It is worth mentioning that the Group of African States represented in Geneva has a membership of 54 countries, representing all African countries that are members of the United Nations.

They work in a coordinated manner within the multilateral bodies in Geneva, especially the Human Rights Council, the World Trade Organization, the World Health Organization and other UN agencies

The meeting took place in the presence of Ambassador Aicha Val Vergess, Permanent Representative of our country to the United Nations and international organizations in Geneva, Mr. Moulay Abdallah Ould Baba, Director General of the Department of Prisons and Rehabilitation, and Mr. Sidi Mohamed Ould El Imam, Director of Human Rights at OHCHR.
