Minister of Petroleum, Mines and Energy Concludes Visit to Tasiast

The Minister of Petroleum, Mines and Energy, Mr. Abdessalam Ould Mohamed Saleh, today, Sunday, concluded his inspection visit to Kinross Tasiast Company Limited.
At the end of this visit, the minister made a statement to the Mauritanian Press Agency, in which he confirmed that the purpose of this visit is to take stock of the situation of the company after the recent fire in his main factory, in order to express his support to him under difficult circumstances.
He added that the visit was an opportunity to visit his various company facilities, to take stock of his situation and to see the working conditions. The visit was also an opportunity, he said, to discuss with the management of the company and Mauritanian workers on the various issues raised by the two parties, adding that they are proud of this company and of the standards. international organizations that it follows and Mauritanian executives who work there, whose percentage is close to one hundred percent. The number of Mauritanian employees reached 1248 workers. We are immensely proud of the presence of the female component among my executives and agents of the company, in particular the women who drive machines with cargoes of 300 tons.
The minister said the company has been operating in Mauritania for 12 years and that the mine is now managed by 300 Mauritanians, according to international standards. I encourage them to persevere in order to continue to achieve better results and urge them to acquire the skills and experience necessary to be able to take over fully from the foreign expertise.
