President of Republic supervises Launch of Education Component of Nouakchott City Development Program

On Monday in the Riyadh district of the southern governorate of Nouakchott, HE President of the Republic, Mr. Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazwani, oversaw the launch of the education component of the emergency program for the development of the city of Nouakchott.

HE the President of the Republic attended a presentation on the objectives and areas of this component and the addition it will provide to strengthen the educational system in the city of Nouakchott in order to improve the performance of the education sector through the provision of adequate infrastructure.

The 866 million ouguiya component aims to increase capacity through the construction of new educational institutions, the renovation and expansion of others, and the improvement of the school environment.

In a speech on the occasion, the Minister of Education and Reform of the Educational System, Ms. Houda Babah, explained that this component is a sample of the pioneering projects launched by the President of the Republic, Mr. Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazwani, noting that this component aims to improve the school supply, increase the attractiveness of educational institutions and raise the quality of their outputs.

She pointed out that this component, which is included in the emergency program for the development of the city of Nouakchott, consists of the construction of 11 new basic schools in the Nouakchott wilayats, including 19 completed secondary schools, in addition to the rehabilitation or expansion of 190 basic schools and 21 secondary institutions.

She highlighted that the education component has reserved a large percentage, estimated at 17% of the total project, which reflects the awareness of His Excellency the President of the Republic about the centrality of education, noting in this context that more than 4,000 classrooms have been built in recent years throughout the country.

She added that recent achievements in the sector include improving the conditions of teachers and giving them the right status, establishing a fund for teachers’ housing, modernizing and developing curricula, and overcoming issues of overcrowding.

She praised the level of response and interaction of the various governmental sectors that are partners in the implementation of the education component of this project, as well as other projects and plans aimed at upgrading the educational institution and increasing the comprehensiveness and quality of the educational service provided in it.
