Nouakchott
On Monday in the Riadh district of Nouakchott South, أHE President of the Republic Mr. Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazwani oversaw the laying of the foundation stone for the roads and isolation component of the emergency program for the city of Nouakchott.
The total cost of this component, which was prepared according to a participatory approach in which all stakeholders, including the local administration and elected officials in the Nouakchott Wilayas, contributed, amounts to about 1.9 billion ouguiya.
The total length of the roads is 136 kilometers and includes a 50-kilometer circumferential road around the capital, which, once completed, will contribute to reducing congestion in the center of the capital through its use by transit vehicles, especially trucks, and limit the horizontal expansion of the city; an 18-kilometer extension of the highway leading to Nouakchott International Airport, the face of our capital, and an urban road network (benefiting all municipalities of Nouakchott) of 68 kilometers in length.
Two national companies will carry out the works in this component within a period not exceeding 16 months, while the National Laboratory for Public Works will supervise them, under the follow-up and coordination of the Department of Infrastructure Works.
In a speech on the occasion, the Minister of Equipment and Transport, Mr. Ely Ould El Veirek, said that the launch of works on this multisectoral project today is part of the ambitious program of His Excellency President of the Republic Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazwani, where the development of infrastructure that supports growth occupies a key place, especially those that contribute to breaking isolation and improving the living conditions of citizens, noting that this program is what the government of HE Prime Minister El Moctar Ould Djay is working to implement.
He said that since 2019, great achievements have been made in all fields and in different regions of the country despite the known global crises, exceeding all expectations.
He added that in the field of transport infrastructure, more than 3000 kilometers of roads, representing 32% of the length of the national road network, have been completed during this period, between construction and rehabilitation, and about 400 kilometers of urban roads, in addition to several bridges and the construction and rehabilitation of some airports in the interior, stressing that these achievements will soon be enhanced with the completion of works in many important projects.
