On 25 December, in Nouakchott, His Excellency Mr. Mohamed Ould Cheikh El-Ghazouani, the President of the Republic, received the report of the National Human Rights Commission (CNDH) on the human rights situation in Mauritania for the years 2023 and 2024.
This was during an audience granted to Mr. Ahmed Salem Ould Bouhoubeini, the CNDH’s President.
At the end of the meeting, Mr. Bouhoubeini told the Mauritanian news agency that he had the honor of meeting the President of the Republic and presenting him with the CNDH’s report on the human rights situation in the country.
He stressed that the report included the progress made in the country’s human rights field, the gaps and challenges in this area, and provided clear recommendations for addressing them.
He indicated that he had informed the President of the Republic of the CNDH’s appreciation of the authorities’ commitment to it, stressing that the CNDH recorded no interference likely to compromise its independence, freedom, and the fulfillment of its mission.
He stressed the importance of human rights as a fundamental pillar of development, peace, security, and national unity.
