On 29 November, in Nouakchott, Mr. Sid’Ahmed Ould Bouh, the Minister of Economy and Finance, Mr. Yamaha Wahito, the Chargé d’Affaires of the Japanese Embassy in Mauritania, and Mr. Morishita Hiromichi, the Director of the JICA office in Senegal, signed two agreements, the first relating to a project to build a fisheries research vessel, and the second to a food assistance program.
The vessel, which will cost MRU 745 million to build, will enhance the capacity of the Mauritanian Institute of Oceanographic and Fisheries Research to exploit fishery resources and preserve marine ecosystems. The MRU 155 million assistance agreement will improve Mauritania’s access to essential food products.
In a speech on this occasion, the Minister indicated that the two agreements are aimed at improving the living conditions of citizens and optimizing the use of resources in the national productive sectors, before praising the level of cooperation between the two countries, which has enabled many important projects to be carried out.
For his part, the chargé d’affaires pointed out that the agreement concerning the ship is the largest donation since the opening of his country’s embassy in Mauritania in 2009, while the food assistance is in line with the President of the Republic’s objectives to eradicate poverty in the country.
