Minister of Environment and Sustainable Development receives UN Coordinator in our country

The Minister of Environment and Sustainable Development, Ms. Massouda Mint Baham Ould Mohamed Laghdaf, received this evening, Tuesday, in her office in Nouakchott, Ms. Leila Peters, the United Nations System Coordinator in our country.
During the meeting, the two sides reviewed the current status of cooperation between United Nations agencies in Mauritania in the field of environment and sustainable development, and opportunities for strengthening this cooperation.
The Minister of Environment and Sustainable Development presented during the meeting the results of joint projects implemented in her sector, especially those related to environmental management, indicating Mauritania’s prospects in bilateral discussions related to international environmental treaties and agreements of the United Nations.
She stressed the strategic importance of these agreements for Mauritania, especially in the field of facing growing global challenges such as climate change and protecting ecosystems.
The United Nations System Coordinator in our country, in turn, expressed the commitment of the United Nations system to support the efforts of the Mauritanian government, especially within the framework of major international environmental events scheduled for the current year.
She expressed the United Nations’ keenness to keep pace with the environment and sustainable development sector in developing and implementing its priority projects by providing technical and financial support.
The discussions touched on coordination procedures within the framework of a common goal aimed at achieving the sustainable development goals of natural resources in Mauritania.
