Minister of Agriculture and Food Sovereignty receives a Mission From the World Bank

The Minister of Agriculture and Food Sovereignty, Mr. Memma Ould Beibatta, received on Tuesday evening in his office in Nouakchott, the Director of the Water Sector at the World Bank in charge of West Africa, Ms. Fattouma Toure Ibrahima.

The meeting dealt with ways to strengthen and develop the existing partnership between the Ministry and the World Bank and the preparatory arrangements for the project to develop, valorize and support the resilience of transboundary waters for West Africa, which will be funded by the World Bank for the benefit of our country.

The two parties also discussed the components, interventions and objectives of the project.

In this context, the Minister gave his recommendations on the need to give priority to rainfed agricultural areas.

For her part, the World Bank’s Director of Water Sector in charge of West Africa confirmed that her institution is moving forward in supporting the agricultural sector in Mauritania and that all recommendations made regarding the project for the development, valorization and support of transboundary water resilience for West Africa will be taken into account.

The meeting was attended by the Secretary-General of the Ministry, Mr. Ahmed Salem Ould Larbi, Mr. Mohamed Yahya Ould Mohamed Mahmoud, in charge of the Office of the Minister of Agriculture and Food Sovereignty, the Director General of the National Company for Rural Development “Sonadir”, Mr. Hamada Ould Didi, and the Coordinator of the Regional Project to Support the Irrigation System Initiative in the Sahel PARIIS in Mauritania, Mr. Ahmed Salem Ould Marrakchi
