The First Lady, Dr. Mariem Mohamed Fadel Dah, honored with her presence, Wednesday evening, at the headquarters of the National Women’s Committee of the Union for the Republic (UPR) in Nouakchott, the Iftar organized by the Committee for the party’s Women.
In a speech on this occasion, the chairman of the party, Mr. Sidi Mohamed Ould Taleb Amar, praised the role of the National Women’s Committee of the party, wishing a speedy recovery to the chairperson of the Committee and the continuation of the party activities, which are inspired by the “My Commitments” program of the President of the Republic.
He pointed out that this Iftar marks the end of a series of others organized by the party during the blessed month of Ramadan. These, he said, are meetings that strengthen ties and contacts between party officials and activists, highlighting the important role women activists play in the life of the party.
He expressed the party’s satisfaction with the work done by the government and the important achievements made so far despite the COVID-19 pandemic.
Mr. Sidi Mohamed Ould Taleb Amar added that these achievements have greatly contributed to raising the standard of living of the population in general, and particularly the vulnerable sections of society.
The deputy chairperson of the UPR National Women’s Committee, Ms. Lalla Rachid Saleh, spoke of the many challenges that marked this period, and particularly those related to the COVID-19 pandemic, which has affected the whole world. She noted that the decisions of His Excellency the President of the Republic Mr. Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani were decisive in mitigating its effects.
The ceremony, which was marked by the screening of a documentary film on the UPR National Women’s Committee and a presentation on the status of women in Islam, was attended by the Minister Advisor at the Presidency of the Republic, the Minister of Social Affairs, Children, and Family, and several party officials and activists.
