Human Rights Commission: “Mauritania’s Election to the UN Committee on the Rights of the Child Is Another Victory Added to Our Country’s Record”
On 233 May, the Commission for Human Rights, Humanitarian Action, and Relations with Civil Society announced that Mauritania’s candidate for the United Nations Committee on the Rights of the Child was selected following a just concluded elections at the UN Headquarters in New York, during the 20th session of States Parties to the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC).
In a press release, the Commission added that “this success is a new brick added to the building of achievements that our country has recently accomplished in the field of human rights, following the program of His Excellency Mr. Mohamed Ould Cheikh El-Ghazouani, the President of the Republic, and the strong desire of the government to ensure respect for human rights and the presence of our experts in the various international bodies and mechanisms”.
The Commission for Human Rights noted in its statement that this result “demonstrates the effectiveness of the government’s policy aimed at strengthening the presence of women and supporting the expertise of civil society, thanks to the appointment by the government of a representative of our country within this committee, in the person of Ms. Zeinebou Mint Taleb Moussa, human rights activist and head of a non-governmental organization working in the field of child protection.
In its statement, the Commission for Human Rights, Humanitarian Action, and Relations with Civil Society congratulated all actors in the field of human rights, affirming Mauritania’s determination to continue to consolidate this important achievement and continue its positive engagement with the various international organizations and mechanisms for the promotion and protection of human rights.
