Organizing a Workshop to Prepare the Voluntary National Review of the Development Goals for the Year 2024
Nouakchott
The workshop on the voluntary national review of the 2024 development goals kicked off Tuesday in Nouakchott.
This workshop, organized by the Nouakchott region in cooperation with the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development, will enable the preparation of a local review at the level of the Nouakchott region in particular, and a regional report highlighting the results of this review at the regional level in general.
In 2015, Mauritania adopted a sustainable development programme, like other countries in the world, consisting of 17 goals that will contribute significantly to improving the living conditions of the population by 2030, said Fatima bint Abdul Malek, president of the Nouakchott region.
In that context, the public authorities had prepared a strategy for accelerated growth and shared well-being, which aimed to integrate all segments of society into active life, in line with the electoral platform of the President of the Republic, Mr. Mohamed Ould Cheikh EL Ghazouani.
She pointed out that the voluntary national review of the Sustainable Development Goals in 2019 made it possible to highlight some of the challenges that were avoided within the action plans of the accelerated growth strategy and shared well-being.
She stressed that public authorities are currently preparing a second voluntary national review of the Sustainable Development Goals to be presented at the High-Level Political Forum in New York next July, noting that this review of a national nature is accompanied this time by a voluntary local review in order to determine the contribution of local communities to the achievement of development goals, starting with Nouakchott.
UNDP Deputy Resident Representative in Mauritania, Ms. Josde Afsi Legrand, noted that this review demonstrates the commitment of the Nouakchott region to play an active role in accelerating SDG projects.
She added that the presentations that will be made during the workshop will make it possible to determine the status of the sustainable development goals at the level of Nouakchott, and to highlight the challenges that hinder their achievement.
The workshop was inaugurated in the presence of the secretaries-general of the Ministries of Interior and Decentralization and Economy and Sustainable Development, the governor of Nouakchott West, the presidents of regional councils, the mayors of Nouakchott and representatives of other concerned sectors.
