Timbedra Fair: Unique Partnership To Develop Livestock

The Timbedra Fair, which was supervised on Wednesday morning by His Excellency the President of the Republic, Mr. Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani, aims to develop exports of livestock production. This is how the comparative advantages of livestock production and agriculture in general lie in their rational exploitation but also in their high capacity to provide jobs.

These advantages have prompted the Rural Development Ministry to choose the region of Timbedra in the wilaya (region) of Hodh Charghi for this purpose, because it is the most suitable place in view of the region’s ability to produce and deliver the product with high efficiency using capital, pasture, and labor, i.e. production should be done at the lowest possible costs and in the best quality.

Mauritania has so far benefited from comparative advantages in the production of small ruminants but also in those of other animal species that can be developed, provided that the necessary infrastructure is created, and that the support of the breeder is ensured through the appropriate supervision but also by increasing the fertility of the herd and the quality of its product by introducing genetic hybridization techniques and modern animal feeding methods.

The organization of this fair under the high patronage of His Excellency the President of the Republic, Mr. Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani, is particularly an important support for this vital and promising sector.

According to specialists, this fair will certainly have a positive effect on the revival of the livestock sector and will encourage the exchange of experiences between the different actors of the sector, including professionals, associations of breeders and collectors, research centers, regional delegations, development projects operating in the field, non-governmental organizations, the specialized press, and other interested parties.

There is no doubt that the choice of Timbedra is successful because it is located at the heart of the livestock production zone, marked by the density of vegetation and the importance, in quantitative terms, of livestock, as well as the experience and activism of the population in the field of livestock development.

This partnership that the fair will generate is the first of its kind in the field, represents an effective tool for publicizing a competitive sector par excellence, and constitutes a quality contribution that deserves to be generalized so that our agricultural and livestock production can cover all our needs.

According to sources from the Ministry of Rural Development, this fair, in its current edition, will give everyone the opportunity to be better informed about the obstacles and difficulties currently affecting livestock.
