Minister of Economic Affairs Discusses Strategic Projects in Mauritania with French Development Agency
The Minister of Economic Affairs and Promotion of Productive Sectors, Mr. Ousmane Mamoudou Kane, held a meeting, in Paris on Wednesday, with the Deputy Director General of the French Development Agency (AFD), Mr. Philippe Bauduin, in the presence of Ms. Rima Le Coguic, Africa Director at AFD.
During the meeting, consultations were held on the need to modernize partnership mechanisms and diversify the financing of major strategic projects in Mauritania.
The two parties agreed that AFD would finance the “Lac d’Aleg” project, which will link this lake to the Senegal River, and which is expected to have a positive impact on the national economy, particularly in terms of agriculture, livestock, and water resources. The project will allow the emergence of a regional development pole that will help create thousands of jobs.
The two parties talked about the possibility to launch an investment fund in partnership between the Mauritanian state and the French Development Agency, through the Proparco program and private investors.
It is expected that the resources of this fund will be allocated to various projects in which private operators are involved to consolidate investment in important economic sectors.
