Steering Committee of the Capacity Building Civil Society for Extractive Industries Project Holds Its Second Meeting

On Tuesday, the steering committee of the project to strengthen the capacities of civil society organizations specialized in the field of extractive industries held the second meeting of its kind, at the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development, headed by the Director General of Development Policies and Strategies at the Ministry of Economy, Mr. Cheikhna Cheikh Ahmed Ould Baddad.

The meeting made it possible to assess the progress made in the implementation of the project and to identify challenges and future prospects.

During the meeting, participants also made a set of recommendations, including the preparation of a declaration on corporate social responsibility to be in line with international standards and the Mauritanian context.

The adoption of these recommendations by the project steering committee aims to strengthen the implementation of the extractive industries transparency initiative and to contribute to improving transparency and integrity in the management of public finances.

The Committee congratulated the project team on the results achieved and invited it to redouble its efforts to complete the implementation of ongoing activities within the specified time.

The project is funded by USAID and implemented by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).

The meeting was attended by Ms. Lisa Washington, Resident Representative of the United States Agency for Development (USAID), Mr. Afah Ibrahim Gedo, representative of the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), and representatives of public administration, mining companies, civil society groups, USAID and UNDP.
