Network of Locally Elected Women in Africa Holds Political Activity

The Network of locally elected women in Africa, Mauritania section, organized, Friday in Nouakchott, as part of the activities commemorating International Women’s Day, a political activity under the theme “female leadership for a future where parity prevails in the Covid-19 world”.

In a speech on the occasion, the chairperson of the regional council of Nouakchott, Ms. Fatimetou Mint Abdel Maleck, indicated that in relation to her aspirations, the woman has made a lot of progress thanks to her determination and her awareness of her responsibilities towards the Nation; but much remains to be done before achieving parity with men in electoral spheres and in decision-making circles.

She praised the action taken by the network of locally elected women in Africa, Mauritania section, to strengthen the capacities of Mauritanian women and make them aware of the role they must play in the emancipation of society.

For his part, the President of the National Human Rights Commission (CNDH), Mr. Mohamed Salem Ould Bouhoubeini, highlighted the measures taken by the network to build the capacities of women and stimulate joint action with the highest authorities as well as with partners.

For her part, the president of the Network of Elected Women, Ms. Aicha Mint Mohamed Ould Beddi, explained that this qualitative presence will undoubtedly alleviate the suffering experienced by Mauritanian women in the context of the repercussions of the COVID-19 pandemic, which highlighted the challenges that women continue to face economically and socially.

She indicated that the Network of Elected Women aspires to see the official authorities continue to support women so that they can overcome the difficulties arising from this pandemic and achieve the goals of sustainable development.
