President of Republic Receives Chinese Delegation

On 9 October, in Nouakchott, His Excellency Mr. Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani, the President of the Republic, received a Chinese delegation led by Mr. LEUNG Chun Ying, the Vice President of the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference, President of the GX Foundation, and including Prof. CHAN Ying Yang Emily, the CEO of the GX Foundation, and HE Mr. Li Baijun, the Chinese Ambassador to Mauritania.

The talks focused on the cooperation between the two countries and the ways and means of developing them further in the mutual interest of the friendly people.

Shortly after the meeting, Mr. Ying told the Mauritanian news agency that he was very honored to be in Mauritania and to be received by His Excellency Mr. Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani, the President of the Republic.

He added that he supervised, with the Minister of Health, the ceremony to launch the eradication of blindness caused by cataracts.

Speaking about his organization, the Vice President of the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference explained that the GX foundation was a humanitarian organization whose mission is to bring China’s medical aid abroad and that its headquarters is in Hong Kong.

He noted that the GX Foundation contributes through its humanitarian action to bringing people together.

Regarding cooperation with Mauritania, Mr. Ying stressed that his institution intended to treat all Mauritanians who suffer from blindness in a few years and help them regain their sight.

“Now there are 81 Mauritanians who have been treated for cataracts and regained their sight thanks to China-Mauritania cooperation,” as he put it.
