On 12 September, in Nouakchott, Mr. El Houssein Ould Meddou, the President of the Press and Broadcasting High Authority (HAPA), received Mr. Peter Galus, a counselor at the Embassy of the United States of America in Mauritania.
During the meeting, the HAPA President informed the US diplomat about the body’s mission, which is part of a global reform of the Mauritanian media initiated in 2020 by the government. The discussions also allowed an exchange on ways to strengthen cooperation, particularly in media regulation, training of journalists, monitoring of social networks, and equal access to the media in the context of elections.
At the end of the meeting, Mr. Galus visited the HAPA monitoring center, where he received detailed explanations.
