Mauritania and Saudi Arabia signed, most recently in Saudi Arabia, a memorandum of understanding (MoU) relating to the granting by the Kingdom of a subsidy for the construction and equipment of the Hospital of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Selman Ibn Abdel Aziz, in Nouakchott, according to a statement released by the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Promotion of Productive Sectors, of which a copy was sent to the Mauritanian news agency (AMI) on Friday.
This funding is in the order of fifty million dollars, which is the equivalent of 2.035 billion MRU.
The MoU falls in the framework of the relations between the two brotherly countries; relations based on religion, culture, and community of common destiny between the two peoples.
They also reflect the will of the leaders of two countries to develop and consolidate their cooperation, especially in the field of development.
The statement specifies that the project aims to strengthen national health coverage, especially in Nouakchott where the health needs of residents are continuously increasing and exceed the capacity of available hospital facilities.
Regarding the expected role of the hospital, the statement indicates that it will serve as a reference for fifteen regional hospitals, that it will provide support to specialized health establishments with a limited absorption capacity, and that it will contribute to training and development of human resources, as a university hospital, enjoying an ideal geographical position.
“This hospital has a capacity of 300 beds and contains several health specialties. These are emergencies, general hypnosis and surgical hypnosis, surgery, maternity, pediatrics, intensive care, nephrology, in addition to many clinics, an integrated laboratory and another for urgent cases, a building for the general administration and a residence for doctors with a capacity of 50 homes”, as the statement of the Ministry of the Economy and Promotion of Productive Sectors put it.
