Minister of Justice Receives Delegation From US State Department

On 7 December, in Nouakchott, the Minister of Justice, Mr. Mohamed Mahmoud Ould Cheikh Abdallahi Ben Boya, received HE Mrs. Cynthia kirscht, the Ambassador of the United States of America to Mauritania, with a delegation from the US Department’s Office To Monitor and Combat Trafficking in Persons of the United States Department of State, headed by Mr. Bryan Marcus, the Deputy Director of the Office.
During the meeting, the Minister briefed the US delegation on the Mauritanian legal framework for the fight against all types of slavery and human trafficking, particularly laws 031/2015 and 017/2020.
He also reviewed Law No. 030/2015 on legal aid and the completion of its related mechanisms.
Mr. Marcus praised the measures the Mauritanian government had taken to promote and protect human rights, in general, and its response to the recommendations contained in the US State Department’s report for the past year.
