Economic Affairs Minister Discusses With UN Resident Coordinator Ways To Strengthen Development Support
On March 6 in Nouakchott, Mr. Abdellahi Ould Souleymane Ould Cheikh Sidiya, Minister of Economic Affairs and Development, received H.E. Mr. Antonio Aranibar, the newly appointed Resident Coordinator of the United Nations system in Mauritania.
The meeting reviewed the cooperative relations between Mauritania and the United Nations system, as well as ways to strengthen joint coordination to ensure the effectiveness of interventions implemented by the various United Nations agencies in the country.
The two parties also discussed mechanisms for harmonizing the strategic framework of the partnership for sustainable development with national priorities, in line with government policies, particularly in the areas of inclusive growth, basic social services, and governance.
During the meeting, the Minister praised the vital role played by the United Nations system, with its various entities, in supporting our country’s development efforts and contributing to the achievement of sustainable development goals, emphasizing the department’s commitment to overcoming all difficulties to ensure the success of joint programs.
The Minister also discussed the development of the third action plan for implementing the accelerated growth and shared prosperity strategy for the period 2026-2030, as well as ways to mobilize the necessary funding for this plan and the structural programs implemented by the government.
For his part, Mr. Antonio Aranibar reiterated the United Nations system’s commitment to continuing its technical and financial support to Mauritania, praising the close cooperation with the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Development in overseeing projects aimed at improving the living conditions of the population and strengthening economic resilience.
