Minister of Mines Returns to Nouakchott From Canada

On March 6, Mr. Thiam Tijani, Minister of Mines and Industry, returned to Nouakchott from Canada after leading a high-level delegation from his department to the International Mining Conference, held in Toronto from March 1 to 4, 2026.

Mauritania’s participation in this major international event—one of the world’s largest gatherings specializing in mining and exploration—is part of the implementation of the directives of His Excellency Mr. Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani, the President of the Republic, aimed at enhancing the country’s attractiveness for investment, developing strategic partnerships in the mining sector, promoting local content, and leveraging expertise and technologies.

On the sidelines of the conference, the minister held a series of meetings with several senior officials and representatives of companies and international financial institutions.

These meetings focused on exploring opportunities for cooperation and investment in the mining sector, reviewing reforms undertaken in the legal and institutional framework governing this sector, and developing Mauritania’s promising geological resources.
