Mauritania Renews Condemnation of Israeli Violations, Calls on Security Council to Fulfil Its Responsibilities

The Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Mauritania to the United Nations, H.E. Cheikh Nenni Moulaye Zein, participated on Thursday in New York in an open debate held by the United Nations Security Council on “The Situation in the Middle East, Including the Palestinian Question.”

In his address during the session, the Ambassador reaffirmed Mauritania’s firm commitment to the goals and principles of the United Nations Charter, particularly the peaceful settlement of international disputes. He also stressed his country’s condemnation of Israel’s continued violations in the occupied Palestinian territories, particularly in the Gaza Strip, where the war of extermination waged over the past three years has claimed more than 74,000 lives and left 175,000 people injured, most of them women and children.

H.E. the Ambassador expressed Mauritania’s appreciation for the mediation efforts undertaken by the United States, Egypt, Qatar, and Türkiye, noting the slow implementation of the requirements of Security Council Resolution 2803 concerning the ceasefire, the delivery of humanitarian aid, and the reconstruction of the Gaza Strip.

He added that Israeli violations of the ceasefire had continued even after the adoption of the resolution, calling on the Security Council to fulfil its responsibilities in maintaining international peace and security and to work towards ensuring compliance with the relevant international resolutions.

In a similar context, H.E. the Ambassador reaffirmed Mauritania’s solidarity with the Syrian Arab Republic and the Republic of Lebanon in the face of Israeli violations targeting the sovereignty and security of both brotherly countries, particularly attacks against civilians and agricultural land, as well as incursions across their internationally recognized borders.

He stressed that Israel must respect the sovereignty and territorial integrity of both countries and fully implement the relevant Security Council resolutions. He also called for the immediate and permanent withdrawal from the occupied Syrian Golan Heights.
