On 16 January, in Tokyo, Mr. Ousmane Mamoudou Kane, the Minister of Economic Affairs and Promotion of Productive Sectors, met with Mr. Yamada Kenji, the State Minister for Foreign Affairs.

Discussions focused on cooperation between the two countries and ways to strengthen it.

The Minister of Economic Affairs indicated that the objective of his mission is the development of cooperation between Japan and Mauritania, particularly through the invitation of JICA to review its instruments of cooperation with our country since it will move to the moderate debt level category.

The Minister also reaffirmed the need to promote cooperation between Mauritania and the Japanese private sector and strengthen JICA’s presence in Mauritania.

For his part, the Japanese State Minister highlighted the importance that his country attaches to the developments recorded in Mauritania, stressing that the notes he made will be taken into consideration; as will concessional loans which will also be discussed.

Regarding the presence of JICA in Mauritania and the revision of its cooperation instruments, he added that these would be the subject of awareness raising with the Japanese high authorities.
