Oil Minister Discusses Strategic Vision for Electricity Sector with UNDP Representative

The Minister of Oil, Energy, and Mines, Mr. Abdessalam Ould Mohamed Saleh granted audience, Tuesday afternoon in Nouakchott, to Mr. Anthony N’Gororano, UNDP resident representative in Mauritania, accompanied by members of his staff.
The meeting focused on areas of fruitful cooperation between the department in charge of energy and UNDP, particularly rural electrification projects and support for restructuring the sector and improving its performance.
These projects aim at promoting good practices in the sector and supporting training and capacity building.
During the meeting, the minister indicated that the technical assistance provided by the UNDP, which is an integral part of the overall scheme of cooperation with technical and financial partners, aims to support the department implement its new vision based on generalization of access to electricity services to all citizens in a fair, sustainable, and low-cost manner.
The management of this vision and the adoption of performance indicators, while ensuring the consistency of the actions and projects that are being implemented, constitute a decisive component in the progress of this process of development and implementation of new strategies and action plans.
The meeting was attended by the secretary general of the ministry, advisers in charge of upstream hydrocarbons, electricity, cooperation and communication, the director general of hydrocarbons and the director of electricity and energy management.
