The President of the Republic, His Excellency Mr. Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani granted audience, Monday afternoon at the Presidential Palace in Nouakchott, to the executive office of the Mauritanian Magistrates Association, headed by its Secretary General, Mr. Oumar Saleck Cheikh.
At the end of the meeting, the Association’s secretary general made a statement to the Mauritanian news agency (AMI) in which he explained that the meeting was an opportunity to inform the President of the Republic of the Association’s vision for justice reform.
He added that they felt His Excellency’s firm will to reform this sector and his understanding of the issues that they had raised, appreciating that at its true value.
He pointed out that because of the place it occupies in the State and in its capacity as a privileged field to restore equity and protect rights and freedoms, Justice represents a cornerstone and an essential foundation in the country’s veritable renaissance.
Mr. Oumar Saleck Cheikh indicated that the Mauritanian Magistrates Association considers that the success of Justice in its important missions depends on the existence of a comprehensive reform strategy capable of achieving such a goal.
He explained that, in this context, the Association presented a note summarizing its vision of the reform of justice in Mauritania.
The meeting was attended by the Minister of Justice, Mr. Mohamed Mahmoud Cheikh Abdallahi Ould Boya, the Director of Cabinet of the President of the Republic, Mr. Mohamed Ahmed Ould Mohamed Lemine, and Mr. Mohamed Mahmoud Ould Lemmatt, Officer in charge of special duties at the Presidency of the Republic.
