Mauritania Signs Understanding Memorandum with US to Boost cooperation in Fight against Terrorism

Our country has signed, Monday morning, at the headquarters of the Ministry of Interior, Decentralization in Nouakchott, a memorandum of understanding with the United States of America to boost cooperation between the two countries in the fight against terrorism.

This memorandum will enable both sides to boost their cooperation in the fields of terrorism, cross-border crime and other areas related to both countries’ security cooperation. It will also enable our country to enhance its technology capabilities to identify people and their identities, particularly in border-crossing areas.

In a speech on this occasion, the Minister of the Interior and Decentralization Mohamed Salem Ould Merzoug, stressed that this agreement will enable our country to strengthen its border security and activate its security policy in the field of fight against terrorism and cross-border crime.

The Ministry of the Interior thanked the US ambassador for his outstanding performance during his tenure in our country, wishing the US-Mauritanian cooperation further progress and development in all fields, particularly in the fight against terrorism and organized crime.
On his part, the US ambassador, Michael Dodman pointed out this memorandum is a testament to the good relations between Mauritania and the United States.

He added that this program, which is to be implemented in accordance with this memorandum, will enable Mauritanian authorities to strengthen their efforts aimed at the protection of borders against terrorism and cross-border crimes.
