Upon President of Republic Intervention, Mauritanian Citizen Detained Abroad Returns Home
Mohamed Ould Cheikh, a Mauritanian national, arrived, on Saturday evening at Nouakchott International Airport, after being released upon the personal intervention of the President of the Republic, His Excellency Mr. Mohamed Ould Cheikh El-Ghazouani, during his recent visit to Abidjan.
In a statement released by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Cooperation and Mauritanians abroad, of which a copy was sent to the Mauritanian news agency (AMI), the President of the Republic thanks his brother and friend, His Excellency Mr. Alassane Ouattara, President of the Republic of Cote d’Ivoire for facilitating the release of this citizen, who was arrested in June last year.

“Our compatriot, Mr. Mohamed Ould Mohamed Cheikh arrived on Saturday evening at Nouakchott Oum Tounsy International Airport from Cote d’Ivoire, where he had been detained since June 2020.
He was received by Mauritanian diplomats and his relatives in an atmosphere of joy and happiness for his return to his family safe and sound.
The release of this citizen, which would not have been possible without the personal intervention of the President of the Republic, His Excellency Mr. Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani, during his visit to Abidjan on 15 December 2020, is the opportunity for the President of the Republic to thank his brother and friend, the President of the Republic of Cote d’Ivoire, His Excellency Mr. Alassane Ouattara, and his Government, for facilitating the release of our citizen in accordance with the legal process.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Cooperation, and Mauritanians Abroad will continue, with vigor and diligence, to take care of the issues affecting our citizens abroad, particularly those who find themselves in difficult situations, in particular detainees and missing persons, in the implementation of the vision of the President of the Republic in this regard, as this issue is one of his top priorities”.
