HAPA President Meets With Chinese Ambassador

On 16 August, in Nouakchott, Mr. EL Houssein Ould Meddou, the President of the Press and Broadcasting High Authority, received HE. Li Baijun, the Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to Mauritania.

During the interview, the HAPA President gave a presentation on the mission assigned to his institution and the activities it carries out in the areas of regulation and development of the media sector. He also addressed the transformations that the authority is undergoing in the light of the reform launched by the public authorities after the formation of the Media Sector Reform Committee and following the approval by the National Assembly of the bill amending some provisions of the law establishing the HAPA.
During the meeting, the two sides discussed ways to diversify and expand cooperation in areas related to journalist training and media regulation. They also discussed ways to strengthen bilateral ties in these areas.

The Chinese Ambassador also appreciated the quality of the deep relations between the two countries, Mauritania’s continued support for China, and China’s continued support for development in Mauritania, stressing the importance of expanding these relations to include the consolidation of cooperation between the media actors of the two countries in terms of training, promotion, and partnership.

At the end of the meeting, the Chinese ambassador went to the HAPA Control and Monitoring Center where he was briefed on the functioning of the center.
