Mauritania has been elected on Wednesday member of the intergovernmental commission for the safeguarding of the Intangible cultural heritage. This commission, along with the executive council and the Executive Council and the World Heritage Committee, is one of the three most important organs of the United Nations Educational, Cultural and Scientific Organization.
The Mauritanian candidacy, in the person of SEM. Cheikhna Moulaye Zein, Permanent Delegate to UNESCO, was strongly supported by the African group and a good part of the Arab, European, Latin American, and Asian groups, led by China.
